Anyone pairing Seongsu with Seoul Forest usually starts by asking which station to get off at. Line 2 to Seongsu Station and the café streets first, or the Suin-Bundang Line to Seoul Forest Station and the park first? On the map the two stations are only a little over a kilometre apart, so it looks as if either end would do.
What decides it is not the distance but the day of the week. Seongsu’s pop-ups and big stores mostly open at 11. We counted four weeks of Seongsu pop-up listings from June and July 2026: of 63 pop-ups, 52 opened at 11:00 or later. Seoul Forest’s Eco Forest, where the sika deer live, opens at 05:30, and the park itself never closes. Two neighbours, one up at dawn and one that sleeps in.
On a weekend, go in through exit 4 of Seoul Forest Station at about 9, walk the park first and cross into Seongsu in time for 11. On a weekday, turn it round: see Seongsu first, while the queues are short in the daytime, finish the day in Seoul Forest in the late afternoon and leave from Seoul Forest Station. On weekday evenings around 6, Seongsu Station’s exit 3 is where the after-work crowd is heaviest. Get off at Seongsu Station at 9 on a Saturday and you wait two hours for most pop-ups to open. Head back to it at 6 on a weekday and you walk out through that exit at the worst moment of the day.

Seongsu’s day starts at 11
WePick Letter used to round up Seongsu’s pop-ups every week under the title “This week in Seongsu!”. The last list still on its site is dated 2 July 2026. We pulled the four lists published on 11 June, 16 June, 25 June and 2 July 2026, pulled out all 69 entries and merged the ones that appeared in two weeks, which left 63 pop-ups. Counting the earliest time each one opened on any day gives this:
| Earliest opening of the day | Pop-ups |
|---|---|
| Exactly 11:00 | 43 |
| Later than 11:00 (11:30–13:00) | 9 |
| 10:00–10:59 | 5 |
| Before 10:00 | 2 |
| 24 hours (inside a convenience store) | 2 |
| Not yet announced | 2 |

The two that opened before 10 were special cases. One was a café pop-up that ran for three days, Tuesday to Thursday 23–25 June, and opened at 8. The other was a two-day event that took advance bookings through Naver. A February 2026 piece in the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s webzine says the same: most Seongsu pop-ups open between 11 am and noon. MCST webzine
Arrive at Seongsu Station at 9, then, and you have two empty hours before the pop-ups open. Spend them in Seoul Forest rather than outside closed doors. Only a handful of places are already open in the morning:
| Place | Mon–Fri | Sat–Sun | Nearest station |
|---|---|---|---|
| Seoul Forest Eco Forest (sika deer, footbridge) | 05:30 | 05:30 | Seoul Forest, exit 4 (park entrance) |
| Blue Bottle Seongsu | 08:00 | 08:00 | Near Ttukseom |
| Onion Seongsu | 08:00 | 09:00 (brand site says 10:00) | Seongsu, exit 2 |
| Seoul Forest Insect Garden | 10:00 (closed Mondays) | 10:00 | Seoul Forest, exit 4 (park entrance) |
| Daelim Changgo Gallery (café) | 11:00 | 11:00 | Seongsu, exit 3 |

Onion’s weekend time depends on where you look. On 7 October 2026, Onion Seongsu’s Naver Map listing showed 08:00 on weekdays and 09:00 on Saturdays and Sundays, with a separate 09:00 entry for the Hangul Day holiday on Friday 9 October. Visit Seoul, the Seoul Tourism Organization’s site, also gives 9 am at weekends. Onion’s own store page, though, still says 10:00 on weekends and public holidays. If you are pinning a weekend morning on Onion, arriving after 10 is safe whichever one is right.
Weekends: Seoul Forest Station at 9, Yeonmujang-gil at 11
Seoul Forest is a two-minute walk from exit 4 of Seoul Forest Station on the Suin-Bundang Line. From Line 2, it is about ten minutes on foot from exit 8 of Ttukseom Station. Seoul Forest park guide If you want coffee before the park, Blue Bottle Seongsu on Achasan-ro near Ttukseom opens at 8 every day. Blue Bottle Korea
If I were planning a weekend day here, I would give the park both hours before 11. Seoul Forest opened in 2005 and covers just over 480,000 square metres. The first thing you reach is the Family Yard, a wide lawn, and the Eco Forest holds the sika deer enclosure, the park’s emblem. Seoul Forest park guide Deer feed has not been sold since January 2020, so don’t promise a child they can feed the deer. Seoul Forest FAQ

A pedestrian footbridge runs above the Eco Forest. It starts at the Hill of Wind, crosses over the park and carries on to the Han River park, and from the bridge you look down into the Eco Forest. The Eco Forest, deer and bridge included, is open 05:30–21:30, so at 9 on a weekend morning it is already open. Seoul Forest park guide
The Insect Garden opens at 10. If you have children with you, time your visit for that. The Butterfly Garden opens only from May to October and is closed from November to April. Both are closed on Mondays. Seoul Forest FAQ
Until 27 October 2026, the Seoul International Garden Expo is on in and around Seoul Forest. There are 167 gardens, centred on the park and reaching into Seongsu and towards the Han River, and they are free to visit without booking. The Expo’s operating hours, however, are 12:00–19:00. Seoul city news, 30 April 2026 If the Expo programme is what you came for, push the park to after noon, even on a weekend.

Leave the park at about 10:40 and start walking east. From Seoul Forest Station to the middle of Yeonmujang-gil is about 1.1 km in a straight line. Following the streets takes longer than that, so allow a little over 20 minutes. There is no reason to get back on the subway.
Don’t rush through the streets on the Seoul Forest side. The lanes off exit 5 of Seoul Forest Station once held so many designers’ and artists’ studios that they earned the nickname Seoul Forest Atelier-gil. Since early 2026, MUSINSA has been filling the empty shops there under its “Seoul Forest project”. By early April it had opened 10 stores, with a target of around 20 by the end of June. ETNews, 5 April 2026 This end is normally the quiet one. In the last quarter of 2025, the Seoul Forest café street averaged 3,086 passers-by a day, about a quarter of the Seongsu café street. MTN, 3 April 2026 If you want to look at clothes without being jostled, this end, with less foot traffic on an ordinary day, beats Yeonmujang-gil.
When you reach Yeonmujang-gil at 11, go to the pop-up you most want to see first. Weekend daytime queues are long. A Korean visitor wrote on Unpa (posted 22 April 2026) that they waited about two hours on a weekend daytime visit to the 2aN pop-up held at LECT Seongsu from 17 to 26 April 2026. There was no advance booking, only an on-site waiting list run through NowWaiting, so the advice was to put your name down the moment you arrive.
Once you are on a waiting list, don’t stand there. Walk round nearby cafés or other shops and come back when you are called. Some waitlist kiosks, however, ask for a phone number. The ministry’s webzine says a Korean number makes kiosk waitlists easier, but many places also take an email address. MCST webzine If a kiosk will take only a Korean number, that is the moment to decide whether the pop-up is worth your whole afternoon.
Choose your pop-ups from this week’s list
Of the 63 pop-ups above, 62 listed their dates, and the median run was 14 days. Thirteen lasted five days or fewer, and the shortest lasted one day. WePick Letter, first week of July A pop-up from a post you saved two weeks ago has a fair chance of being over already.

So pick again the day before or that morning. Searching “Seongsu-dong pop-up” (성수동 팝업) in a map app such as Naver Map shows each pop-up’s description, opening and closing times and location at a glance. MCST webzine In our sample, 29 of the 63 were on Yeonmujang-gil and its side lanes. That is the area usually called the Seongsu café street, spreading south of the station from exits 3 and 4. Korea Tourism Organization (Japanese site)
Check age limits too. A whisky-pairing pop-up held in Seongsu from 27 June to 5 July said “19 and over, ID required”. WePick Letter, last week of June The 19 there is international age (만 19세). If you are visiting from abroad, carry your passport.
Weekdays: Seongsu first, Seoul Forest in the late afternoon
Weekday daytime in Seongsu is a different story. yuu, who writes travel posts in Japanese, said in a post on note.com on 11 January 2026 that a Seongsu bakery-café they walked into before 10 on a weekday had so few customers it felt like a private booking, and they stayed about two hours. Later that day, just before 4 pm, they got straight into Neungdong Minari in Seongsu, a restaurant known for its queues, without waiting.
On a weekday morning, Onion Seongsu fits. It opens at 8 on weekdays, so you can start the day with bread and coffee an hour or two earlier than at weekends. Onion Seongsu is 132 m from exit 2 of Seongsu Station, in a building from the 1970s. Before it became a café, the building went through a supermarket, restaurants and a factory that made small parts. Visit Seoul
Ordering works more like a bakery than a café. According to Alina’s post on Onion Seongsu, by a Taiwanese blogger (updated 6 November 2024), you put pastries on a tray from the counter in the middle, take them to the till and pay for them together with your coffee, then wait at your seat with a buzzer and collect the drinks when it goes off. When they went on an early-November afternoon, the indoor seats were nearly full and there was plenty of room on the terrace. If you really need an indoor seat on a cold or rainy day, I would go on a weekday morning rather than a weekend afternoon.
When you search, include the branch: “Onion Seongsu” (어니언 성수). Onion also has branches in Anguk, Gwangjang Market and elsewhere, and searching the brand name alone can send you to another part of Seoul. Onion store list

At 11, walk over to Daelim Changgo near exit 3. It is a red-brick warehouse that was a rice mill in the 1970s. Korea Tourism Organization If you have the warehouse café from older photos in mind, you may be surprised. Since 13 September 2024 the complex has housed MUSINSA Store Seongsu @Daelim Changgo. Etoday, 1 September 2024 In October 2024, its first full month, 49% of the store’s sales came from foreign customers. Byline Network, 21 November 2024 Daelim Changgo Gallery, a café and gallery, is still open at 78 Seongsui-ro, 11:00–22:00 every day (Naver Map, 7 October 2026).
The weekday catch is 6 pm. Seongsu Station’s ridership has doubled in ten years, yet it still has only four exits, and exits 2 and 3 are the most crowded. Seoul Media Hub, 23 August 2024 In the evening rush, 31.1% of the station’s users go through exit 3. Extra stairs, numbered 3-1, are being built in front of exit 3, with completion planned by December 2026 (as reported in November 2025). Kyunghyang Shinmun, 5 November 2025

That is why Seoul Forest goes last on a weekday. Walk west from Seongsu at about 3 pm and you reach the park with time to spare before the Insect Garden’s last entry at 16:30. From November to February it closes at 16:00 with last entry at 15:30, so start an hour earlier. The Eco Forest with the deer stays open until 21:30. Seoul Forest park guide See the sun go down in the park, take the Suin-Bundang Line from Seoul Forest Station, and you never have to go back through Seongsu’s exit 3 at rush hour.
Mondays are the exception. The Insect Garden and the Butterfly Garden are both closed. Seoul Forest FAQ The lawns and the Eco Forest are open as usual, so you can still walk, but if a child is looking forward to the Insect Garden, move the day to Tuesday–Friday.
As a Line 2 train approaches Seongsu, the announcement says “This stop is Seongsu, Musinsa.” Since 10 December 2025 MUSINSA has shared the station’s name, so it also appears on the station signs and line maps. It is the same Seongsu Station; get off as normal. Segye Ilbo, 9 December 2025
Seoul Forest’s rules
You cannot put up a tent, even a small one, or a sunshade in Seoul Forest. Lighting a fire or cooking outside the designated places carries a 100,000 won fine. If you are bringing a packed lunch, the Lunchbox Garden next to the apricot trees by the Family Yard is the spot made for picnics. Seoul Forest park guide
There is no bicycle rental inside the park. Dogs are welcome, but leads must stay within 2 m. Seoul Forest FAQ
On a rainy day, choose somewhere indoors before you worry about the order. Inside Seoul Forest, the Insect Garden, where you see insects and plants whatever the weather, is the place to shelter. Visit Seoul On the Seongsu side, you are better off choosing one big warehouse space, such as Daelim Changgo Gallery or the MUSINSA store, and staying a while. The walk between shops is outdoors however you plan it.
The day by day of the week
| Sat–Sun | Tue–Fri | |
|---|---|---|
| Start | 9:00 Seoul Forest (for coffee first, Blue Bottle Seongsu near Ttukseom opens at 8; the park is 10 minutes from Ttukseom exit 8) | 8:00–10:00 Onion Seongsu (Seongsu exit 2) |
| Morning | Family Yard, sika deer in the Eco Forest, footbridge, Insect Garden at 10, then east past Atelier-gil at 10:40 | A walk around the Yeonmujang-gil lanes |
| 11:00 | Yeonmujang-gil: put your name on the waitlist of the pop-up you most want | Pop-ups, Daelim Changgo, the MUSINSA store |
| Afternoon | A nearby café while you wait to be called, then Daelim Changgo and the MUSINSA store | About 15:00 to Seoul Forest; Insect Garden last entry 16:30 (15:30 Nov–Feb) |
| End | Whichever station is closer, Seongsu or Seoul Forest | Seoul Forest Station at dusk; avoid Seongsu exit 3 at 18:00 |
| On a Monday, follow the weekday order, but in Seoul Forest stick to the lawns and the Eco Forest. |
What jams a day here is a closed door or a queue that never ends. At weekends, give Seoul Forest the two hours before Seongsu opens. On weekdays, cross to Seoul Forest before the evening rush begins. Whatever the day, the park opens before Seongsu and stays open after it.
